Elementary Project Checklist

Elementary Project Checklist (K-5, 6 if in elementary school)

___1. Online Registration (preferably before the Thursday before registration night.)
___2. Project size under 30″ X 48″ X 108″ (depth, width, height)
___3. Project must be free standing
___4. Abstract (optional – additional copy for Abstract Competition)
___5. Displays may NOT contain the following:

  1. Live animals or plants or dried plants;
  2. Food materials (NO EXCEPTIONS);
  3. Soil, solutions, chemicals, household products or water, dry ice or other subliminating solids. Display of clean, empty containers is acceptable;
  4. Drugs or drug look alikes;
  5. Microorganisms, algae, mold, bacteria, or protozoans;
  6. Preserved animal parts. (Teeth, fingernails, feathers, hair and bones may be OK if preserved and sealed in plastic);
  7. Exposed electrical apparatus or open batteries; wiring must be insulated;
  8. Flammable gases or open flames;
  9. Unshielded fans, lightbulbs, belts, pulleys, chains or moving parts with tension or pinch points;
  10. Photos of animals in surgical or lab procedures;
  11. Sharp items such as needles, scissors, or glass tubing, syringes, pipettes; or
  12. Awards, medals, flags or business cards.

___6. Additional display criteria:

  1. No operation of class III or IV lasers.
  2. Displays producing high temperatures must be insulated from surroundings.
  3. High voltage equipment must have grounded metal shield or cage; high voltage wiring, switches, etc must have insulation and overload safety.
  4. 110-volt AC circuits must have UL approved cord (9′ minimum) and grounded plug.
  5. Bare wire and knife switches used only on circuits of 12 volts or less.
  6. Large vacuum tubes and ray-generating devices must be shielded.
