Stockholm Junior Water
Prize (SJWP)
U.S. Stockholm Junior Water Prize
(SJWP)
The Stockholm Junior Water
Prize (SJWP) is world's most prestigious youth award for a
water-related science project. The prize taps into the
unlimited potential of today's high school students as they
seek to address current and future water challenges.
This competition is open to
students in grades 9 through 12 with science projects aimed
at enhancing the quality of life through the improvement of
water quality, water resource management, or water and
watershed treatment. Projects can explore water issues on a
local, regional, national, or global level using a
research-oriented approach.
The Alaska Science and
Engineering Fair would like to promote interest in the SJWP,
which is not actually awarded at the Alaska Science and
Engineering Fair, but students may enter both competitions
with the same project.
When you prepare your
water-related project for the Alaska Science and Engineering Fair,
also submit your paper to the
State SJWP Competition, http://www.wef.org/PublicInformation/page.aspx?id=280&ekmensel=c580fa7b_62_0_280_1.
Your entry will be reviewed by the Alaska State SJWP judges,
and they may also visit you and your project at the Alaska
Science and Engineering Fair. (Please note that you can
still enter the State SJWP competition even if you are
unable to attend the Alaska Science and Engineering Fair.)
The Deadline for submitting entries is April 15, 2010.
If you are the winner of the
Alaska State SJWP competition, you and your school will be
presented with an award. Both you and your science teacher
will be invited to compete at the National Competition in St
Louis, MO, June 17-20, 2010. (Visit
2010 U.S. National Competition, http://www.wef.org/PublicInformation/page.aspx?id=282&ekmensel=c57dfa7b_62_0_282_3
for details). The winner of the U.S. event will be invited
to compete at the International SJWP event in Stockholm,
Sweden. All expenses are paid for the winner and the
winner's science teacher to attend the U.S. and
International events.
